Video To base my Idents On
NID AND SANCY - KIDZZ (Original Dub) from sixthsensemanagement on Vimeo.
This is a clip that Lorraine suggested I look at as I have taken a new direction with my project. As it turns out this is exactly how I want my video to come out - the way each photo / image transitions into another. It is a good combination of photographs and shapes into one...I would like to add some text into my idents somehow but this is a perfect starting point for my new direction
I really like this piece of motion graphics, I like the way all the illustrations and shapes fit together. One feeling that I did get from the video is that black background can be slightly over powering at times - it creates too much of an empty space. Even though the contrast of black with the colours in the shapes / images make them stand out - I do feel that sometime the black is too much and maybe the background should have changed colour slightly.
Most of the images are still pictures (apart from the screen at the start of the video) I think that they all blend and move through into the next photo really well.
Phonat - "Love Hits The Fan" music video
I accidently stumbled upon this video when I was searching for Phonats music, and it just so happened that the video is very relevant to my subject and the brief that i am doing at the moment. Even thought it is not based on festivals - at the moment my piece is very image based and not much is really going on - I think that if i can use more shapes / ways of revealing the information then it would give my work more depth / interest

Electric Picnic Video - Ireland
Electric Picnic 2010 from Dan Flynn on Vimeo.
This animation is something I was shown as an idea of how to set out my ident as I have been struggling to come up with idea. This video looks at all the non obvious that contribute to the setting / feeling / experience of this festival for example
- it is set in the countryside in the middle of no where - identifies by the alien ship
- There are a variety of different characters / types of people there - some normal and some wearing slightly excentrick clothing
- It is a festival for all ages - a family festival shown through the baby in the ball pint.
- There will be sun and rain but it wont make a difference
This video is compiles of just images that have either been photographed or been hand wrendered, cut out and photoshoped - This is a starting point for my video however I would like my video to be more type based as I feel that bringing together a series of images for me wont give the 'feel' of the festival - I am more trying to promote which festivals are out there and what they are like.
Berlin Music Festival Video
Berlin Festival 2010 from Dan Flynn on Vimeo.
This video interests me because of balanced combination of text and image in motion. This also uses predominately black and white images with coloured text - this is soemthign that I need to explore.
I think that this video works very well, it is not over complicated but still provides enough information for the viewer to understand a bit about the music festival. The choice of music is good - simple and relevant and all the moves and appears in time to the beats. The song I have chosen is slightly more up beat, so by looking at this video I can see how and where to time the movement to the main parts of the song.
2d animation tv advert
A simple animation that I want to use as ideas / references for my video
This video is not very relevant to the theme of my project but I was more looking at the way in which the sequence progresses and the characters and type move into one another - the movement of the yellow background is something which I can draw from - I could use a similar layout (but with a differnt colour) and have shadows / sillhouettes in the foreground.

E4 Ident
Because I am going to use E4 as my channel I just wanted to have a look at basic idents which have been created for the channel before hand as I feel that this will be an important part / theme in the idents e.g. colour / logos
After Effects Particle lights
A simple but effective example of using glow and basic shapes to create a good effect. For the 'night' part of my ident I want to have a glow effect on the type and maybe the images
It is interesting to look at how the use of the 'camera' in after affects has completely added another level of credibility to this video, making it more interesting. I think that it works well together
The colour scheme is similar to that of the colour scheme that I wanted to use - its interesting to compare the difference that the glow effect has on the whole composition in comparison to not hvaing it.

bp logo animation
Even though BP is nothing to do with summer music festivals - I really liked the way the vector parts of the logo come together and how they are created in motion.
MTV VMA logo animated in After Effects
In the crit it was brought up that I needed to find a more general typefaces that would cover all genres of music not just dance - this is good typeface to to base my work on as well as it being a good but simple ident to work from
50 Logo Animations In 3 Minutes By Spin My Logo
This clip is very good to look at for ideas on how to animate the logos of the festivals without over-complicating the ident.
Naturally the graphics are not meant to fit gother as one piece but I wanted to reference this piece because of the simple movements of each of the logos and how they all move and fit goterh with the music as well

monitocadaver motion logo
A very short video that I found. Here I was intereested in how the camera moves forward through the composition - this is something that I want to do with the images of the crowd - move through the crowd towards the stage then zoom in. Taking an idea from this video - if I made the images of the people in the crowd very simplistic (like here there are just white cut out shapes) then it could make the composition less complicated and keep the focus on the stage ahead.
VH1_RETRO IDENTS.mov
A simple video and but a very good example of the use of 3D space.
The graphics and type themselves are simple and stay the same but the movement of the camera makes the piece more interesting.
Using the circles flashing in and out of opacity effectively represent flashing lights (like in an 80's disco)
Opacitiy is something that I need to experiement with
mtv motion graphics channel id
The video itself is a vulgar piece of graphics - none of it works together or flows very well but it was just the short clip at 6 seconds that I was most interested in - the movement of the beams of light grow and move into the sky that I was intereted in.
Overall this video is a poor example of what I want to do - the colours, the graphics, the text all dont work very well and It isn't very clear what the video is trying to communicate - in which case this is a good example of what not to do and make sure what I am creating flows and is clear - and possibly stay away from cartoon / chinese like graphics.
Possible Audio - Roger Sanchez - Another chance - Original Mix (Music Video)
This is another song I was thinking of for the video - it have always associated this with summer
This is a song that I associate with summer however when talking to peers and asking for feedback they said that because this song was made in the 10 years ago it would give my video a more dated feel and that I need to use a track that isn't so well known (as this one is) otherwise people will have too many pre- ideas and visual representations of the track already.

Official video - Sunburn festival Goa 2010 (HQ)
It is the first couple of seconds of the video which I am looking at here - the way the text flickers in and out of view and the general form of the text - slightly distorted. Overall the video isn't very intereting but the text effects add something more to it and this is something I want to have.
Audio - Possible track
This is a song that i have as an idea for the audio for the sequence
The good thing about this song as that I has been used in one of the TOMORROWLAND promo videos - although people may be able to identify with this song, it isn't something that has been in the charts and not something that everyone will know.
It has a good beat which I have lots of ideas for in moving text and images around - my only concern is that when the main part of the drop comes in there is a very specific 'off beat' that I think will be quite complicated when trying to arrange the moment of text and images around to
Over all - I think that this song is perfect - Everyone I have spoken to and shown it too agrees that it is a 'festival' song and they associate it with summer - I think that it will give the perfect feel to my idents and title sequence.

Duke - Message In A Bottle
This is a music video that I want to use as an example of how to use photoshoped image in the video without it looking over crowded.
EXIT FESTIVAL 8-11 LUGLIO 2010
A short video that I found - although overall I dont like the style or the whole composition - i found it interesting the way the camera moved through and over the setting just to give a general impression of the festival.
Outlook Festival 2010 [Official video]
LIke many of the videos that I have posted on the page they are very relevant to motion graphics - however I am more looking at what parts make the festival - the sun, the sea, the people, the music - these are all factors that I need to pay close attention to when researching and making my video.

Festival Information
GLASTONBURY - 150, 000 people
For the early 20th century classical music and theatre festivals, see Glastonbury Festival (1914–1925). For the most recent festival, see Glastonbury Festival 2011.
The Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts, commonly abbreviated to Glastonbury or even Glasto, is a performing arts festival that takes place near Pilton, Somerset, England, best known for its contemporary music, but also for dance, comedy, theatre, circus, cabaret and other arts.
The festival organiser Michael Eavis, a farmer in a Somerset valley stated that he decided to host the first festival, then called Pilton Festival, after seeing an open air Led Zeppelin concert at the Bath Festival of Blues and Progressive Music 1970. The first festivals in the 1970s were influenced by hippie ethics and the free festival movement. The festival retains vestiges of this tradition such as the Green Fields area which includes the Green Futures and Healing Field. After the 1970s the festival took place almost every year and grew in size, with the number of attendees sometimes being swollen by gate-crashers. Leading pop and rock artists have appeared as headline acts with thousands of others appearing on smaller stages and performance areas. The festival has also spawned films and albums and is reported on extensively on television and in newspapers.
The size and nature of the festival, held over three or four days in the open air, with performers, crew and paying festival goers staying in tents, caravans and motorhomes, has meant that the weather is significant. It is now attended by around 150,000 people requiring extensive infrastructure in terms of security, transport, water and electricity supply. The majority of staff are volunteers, helping the festival to raise millions of pounds for good causes
Global Gathering Launch Video
I think that this is a fantastic start to the video. Although the graphics themselves are simple - the movement of them to the beat of the music creates an exitement factor. This is also one of the festival that I am including in my TOP 10 so I was also interested in how they promote themselves and build up the height through the music and the graphics.
The colour scheme is pretty similar to that of what I am going to use - although they appear to have re-branded themselves since I attended the festival in 2008 as their logo and theme was blue then.
The way the the names of the DJ have been shown - a very simple effect but they move in time to the music and zoom towards the screen edge then fade out - this is what I want to do with my text instead of the text coming forward and scaling up to much that it goes past the viewer (trying to give a 3D effect) - I think that this method is more effective and also means that less time is wasted trying to scale up the logo before seeing the next one.
Hideout official Video
Although this video is based on video - I was more interested in how the text all appears in the same way and has the same formation over the outline of the logo. I all fits very well and all the colours of the video have been changed to look at one.
I think that this video works very well because of the emphasis on the type and the way it moves.
